Cold windy days with rain and snow I say it's time to bring this forward!
Okay so I love it when people take my recipes and make them even better! A good friend tried my original recipe and said, "I like it but......" the recipe below is what she came up with and let me tell you I like it lots better than the original one. Not that it was bad but this is so good. Honestly I have never been a very big hot cocoa fan but this is wonderful on these freezing cold nights and snowy days! I just love good friends who share good recipes! Thanks Lisa!
Homemade Hot Carob Mix
7 cups powdered coconut milk
1 cup carob powder
4 1/2 cups Sucanat or Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals
1 or 2 vanilla beans, cut in half the long way
1/2 teaspoon of Real Salt
In a large bowl mix powdered coconut milk, carob powder and salt. Mix well. Add vanilla beans. Mix 2-4 Tablespoons of mix with every cup of boiling water. Obviously you spoon around the vanilla beans they are just there to give it a hint of vanilla flavor.
OOooooooo! I've NEVER heard of dry coconut milk powder but I WANT SOME!! Where do you get yours, or what brand can you recommend?
ReplyDeleteI already know I'll want it in BULK! THANKS for all of your great recipes and helps!!
I get it through Azure Standard the brand is Wilderness Family Naturals. We don't use lots of it but I'm glad I have some!
ReplyDeleteThat cinnamon roll looks so amazing is it your normal recipe with the cashew frosting?
ReplyDeleteEmily: No that is just my regular bread recipe with Coconut oil, Sucanat and Cinnamon rolled up then topped with a powdered Sucanat, Rice Milk and Vanilla icing.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 questions....do you buy carob powder from azure standard? Also I bought you book meals on the go. The measurements are different then recipe which do you like better?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Yes I get my carob powder from Azure. And I actually like this recipe quite a bit better. I recently updated it on the blog it's a friends improvement and I like it better more "creamy". Both are good though!
ReplyDeletecould i use regular cocoa for this? we don't love the taste of carob, but i am looking for a dairy free hot chocolate mix. also, if i bought the 1 pound bag of coconut powder from azure, do you think that would be enough to make 1 batch?
ReplyDeletelaurie: Yep you can use cocoa. I actually have a friend who did a taste test with her kids cause they didn't think they liked the carob. It was funny she said they all liked the one with carob better and thought it was the cocoa. ;) But yep it will work just fine.
ReplyDeleteAlso I think a one pound bag of coconut milk powder should be enough if not it should still be good!
