Alright, Alright...I wasn't going to post this one yet, because the picture is hideous. Yet, Tammie said she needed it pronto...so here it is. But please try not to judge this recipe by it's looks?! These are incredibly tasty little morsels.
French Toast Stix
1/2 cup almond or rice milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder
3 teaspoons sucanat
1 teaspoon cinnamon
4 slices of bread
pure maple syrup or dip of your choice
Directions:
Cut slices of bread into 4 equal sticks.
Mix first 8 ingredients in bowl.
Dip sticks individually into mixture. Over medium/low heat, on a well greased pan, lay sticks flat down. After 2 to 4 minutes turn sticks, they should be a light brown. Sticks should turn easily when done. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes before removing.
Cover with toppings.
Wah-La... Enjoy 'em!

They look wonderful Emily. I can't wait to try them. Tried your orange julius this morning, it takes just like it but I know it is better for me. Thanks!
Hey Em, Thanks so much for posting these! I can't wait to try them this weekend! I'm sure they will be a hit!
We can't wait to try them they look really good.
Hey Em we tried these this past weekend! They were a big hit! Thanks for posting them! We will be making them again soon! I actually quadrupled plus one (5 times;) the recipe and used about one and a half loaves of bread. It fed a crew and the crew loved it! ;) Thanks again!
Oh and I did add some nutmeg! A half teaspoon to the recipe. I like nutmeg and it's good for you too!
Courtney made it this past weekend and my kids and I loved it, I am not sure if Bryce tried them at all.
In the picture it almost looks like butter and powder sugar? Just wondering. Thanks for the new recipe!
Okay....truthfully....in the picture the toppings on the french toast stix are:
Dun Dunn Dunnnn...
Vegenaise
and
Pure Maple Syrup.
Don't knock it, til you try it! :)
Hey there Emily!! I just found your blogs! Hope you don't mind that I liked them to mine. I really love this food one - so excited to try some of your recipes!!!
What is the topping in the picture? It looks white
Breezy: It's Vegenaise and pure maple syrup. It's what my sister uses. We usually just dip them in pure maple syrup or our favorite coconut syrup (you can find the recipe here at: http://www.simplehealthytasty.com/2008/07/blender-pancakes-and-coconut-syrup.html )
Also we have used coconut oil or peanut butter instead of butter on pancakes, waffles, etc. We haven't tried the Vegenaise but my Sister says her and her fam enjoy it!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! THESE WERE FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) :) *drooooool! Thank you for sharing! This will be a family favorite from now on.
Veganaise with syrup...who would have thunk! That's an interesting mixture for sure.
Brianna
I did have one question though.....with the olive oil. I don't typically use any oil besides coconut oil when cooking so with heating the olive oil doesn't it turn into a bad or dangerous fat?
Brianna: You don't want to over heat Olive Oil. So I don't fry and stuff like that with it. But to lightly sautee or low heat I think it's still better then other oils. Coconut oil is for sure better to cook with and can be used in this recipe. You will probably want to melt it first. I haven't worried about it with this recipe because there isn't much oil and they are cooked for just a few minutes on each side. But you are exactaly right you don't want to over heat Olive oil!
