I made this Trifle last weekend for my daughter's birthday! It was very Tasty and very rich! I think you could get very creative with this recipe. This one is a chocolate orange but you could do chocolate mint raspberry, or just chocolate raspberry and/or strawberry. You could thin down the banana cream pie filling to make it a pudding and do a banana cream trifle. I also want to try to figure out how to do a really good vanilla and or almond type custard. Oh the possibilities are endless! Also Dad I thought of you and your love for orange sticks when I tasted the Chocolate Orange Mousse! MMmmmMMmmmm
Chocolate Orange Trifle
1 recipe Yellow Type Cake
2 recipes (meaning double the recipe, be sure to use the orange extract) Chocolate Mousse
1 or 2 cans (depending on how many you want) of fruit juice sweetened Mandarin Oranges, drained
2 recipes (again double this recipe) of My Favorite Whipped Creme
Take cooled cake and cut into squares and place a layer of pieces in the bottom of a large glass bowl. If you have a trifle bowl like mine even better but a glass bowl will work. (it was a wedding gift we have used it for salad and as a punch bowl but this is the first time it was used for trifle;) After a layer of cake spread half of the mousse over the cake then add half the Mandarin Oranges I placed mine in a nice swill pattern but you can do it however you want. Then top that layer with half of the whipped creme. Then repeat once more with a layer or cake then mousse, oranges, and the very top with whipped creme. It would be cute with a single Mandarin Orange slice with a couple mint leaves on the very top.
